Balance Help Donate To Serbia!

Slaithwite Saracens have formed an unlikely partnership with Red Star Belgrade Rugby League Club in Serbia. Slaithwaite have donated 3 kits, 10 tackle shields, training vests and 4 balls. The equipment got sent off on Tuesday 20th August and should arrive at the famous Marakana stadium where Red Star Belgrade football team play and the rugby club train in around 7 days. Austen Novakovic marketing director of Red Star Rugby Club said “It is impossible to get hold of any rugby equipment in Serbia, So we are very grateful to the Slaithwaite Saracens for their kind donation. We hope we can continue working together in the future.”

The trip would not have happened if it wasn’t for Balance Accountants in Holmfirth who kindly donated the money for the delivery and offered storage for the equipment until it was taken. Ashley Barrowclough, partner at Balance Accountants had this to say “We have a close affinity with rugby league and we act for a number of super league players. It therefore seems appropriate to assist an emerging nation to develop the sport in their country.”

Night At The Dogs In Aid Of Master Cutler’s Challenge

 

Sheffield business women Becki Jones and Hannah Bailey, are currently organising their next charity event in aid of The Master Cutler’s Challenge.

This time it’s a Night At The Dogs.  It’s on 2nd August at Owlerton Stadium, Sheffield, and funds are being raised in two ways.

You can get your ticket for £20, and in return for this you get admission, a free bet and a 3 course meal.  A sample menu can be viewed here – the roast rump of lamb, colcannon potatoes, redcurrant and rosemary jus sounds pretty good to me.

Also, businesses are also being offered the unique opportunity to sponsor a race.  For a minimum of £50 you will be able to have your company name (or any other name you want) advertised on all publicity associated with the track, racing post and other daily newspapers that post the racing, cable channels that show the dogs, and also every single bookmakers in the country will broadcast your company name on their television service.  You will also get a photograph in the winners enclosure after the race, and also the opportunity to present the winning owner with there trophy, as well as watching the race from trackside.  This sounds like a very fun way to get your company noticed in and around Sheffield whilst supporting a local charity to boot.

Tickets for this event can be bought directly from the Sponduly website, but all monies must be in by 25th July to allow Becki time to go to the track and purchase the tickets.

Sheffield Business Women Hold Charity Auction

Each 2nd Tuesday of each month I hot foot it down to Sheffield to attend the Mum’s the Boss South Yorkshire networking meeting, of wich we are venue sponsors.  This is a very enjoyable meeting each month and along the way I get to know a lot about local events in Sheffiled.

Last week was no exception, when I learned about a charity auction being organised by two of the ladies there, Becki Jones of Scarlett Parties and Hannah of Wise Choice Nutrition.  The auction is to raise funds towards the Master Cutler’s Challenge – a local Sheffield organisation looking to improve employment prospects of 1,000 young people in the Sheffield region.

The Auction is being held this Thursday evening, 23 June 2011, at La Foret, Leopold Square, Sheffield and the fun starts at 8pm.  

Becki told me that the full list of lots can be found on their facebook page – I looked it up – the list is impressive.

Becki contacted  me to say, “I have recieved this gorgeous Jody Craddock (of Wolverhampton Wanderers) canvas print today, that has been signed by all the team.  We have decided to sell it off directly on Facebook, as there is a lot of interest in it but some people have let us know that they are unable to attend the auction.”  The closing date for this is also 23 June 2011, so that all proceeds can count towards the auction results.

So if you are around Sheffield on Thursday you could be doing a local charity a lot of good by heading down to La Foret at Leopold Square to join in the fun, and if you can’t make it but want to make a Wolves fan very happy head over to Facebook and place your bids.

Our New Friends – Mum’s The Boss South Yorkshire

I’ve really been looking forward to bringing this post to you.

We are extremely pleased to announce that we have recently become one of the sponsors for the South Yorkshire branch of Mum’s The Boss.

Through time spent on Twitter I came across the website for Mum’s The Boss, run by Sam and Helen and based in Bedfordshire.  I was attracted to the idea behind this networking support group as it specifically designed for people (usually the Mums) who need to network, but whose day is built around childcare needs and can’t easily or regularly commit to attending breakfast or teatime meetings, for example.  This suited me down to the ground – I have a 2-year-old daughter and my need to network on behalf of Balance is hindered by my commitments to our home life.  

At the time I found Mum’s The Boss there were groups set up in Bedfordshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire and Hertfordshire – all too far away for us to get involved.  Then one day came news of a South Yorkshire group starting up.  On enquiring I found out that meetings were set to be fairly central to Sheffield.   This was more like it.  Although we have a West Yorkshire address, Sheffield is very accessible to us.  In fact, we have a very healthy cluster of clients down that way already.

I made contact with Sarah Chapman, the brave soul who has taken on the responsibility of getting the South Yorkshire Branch up and running – no mean feat, as anyone who’s ever attempted this will tell you.  I explained our interest in getting involved with the meetings on some level, and to cut a longish story short, we are now a sponsor.

This means that I will be going along to the ‘open morning’ next Tuesday, 9th November to meet Sarah, the other sponsors and all prospective members.  I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone, not least so that I can decide what topic will suit the group best when I do my ‘bit’ on 8th March next year.
