Review – Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy.

I have recently read another management book as part of my staff mentoring training, and once again I have been asked to write about what I have found.

The book that I read was Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy.

The book provides various ideas to help you improve your time management, improve your decision –making, and improve your performance.

Improving in these areas should help you to improve your business and improve your life!

Delegation and prioritising

If you are going to run a successful business, then you are going to struggle to get everything done yourself – so what you need to do is delegate the least important tasks and things that other people could do (even with a small amount of training).

Delegating these smaller tasks will enable you to concentrate on getting the most important things done; those things that will make a real difference in helping you improve the business.

Not only should you concentrate on doing the most important things, but you should deal with the most important item first, and then the next most important item (and so on, and so on).  You shouldn’t move on to the next item until you have completed the task (unless you absolutely have to).

If you manage your time like this on a daily basis, then doing the most important things first becomes a good habit, and a habit that when repeated over and over again will help you to generate better results!

Generating these improved results will also make you happier and more confident in your work, and your life!

Setting goals and objectives and planning to meet them

Another way of helping to generate better results is to decide what results you would like to generate, how you would like the business to develop, and how you plan to reach the goals and targets that you have set.

Every individual and every business has goals or targets that they set that they want to meet, both in the short-term and in the long-term.

In order to meet these goals you will set a plan (whether written down, or just mentally) to try and reach these goals.

You have a better chance of achieving the goals that have been set (particularly long-term goals) if you know exactly what they are, you don’t deviate from them, you write them down, set deadlines for when you want to achieve them, and list, plan and prioritise the tasks that you will need to complete in order to achieve the goals.

Long-term thinking will also help improve your short-term decision-making, because if you know what you want to do in the long-term, you will make sure that the decisions that you make today align with the longer-term goals and objectives that have been set.

You should then implement the plan and set aside time regularly (where you will not be interrupted) to work your way through the list of tasks. This should give you a better chance of reaching your goals (and meeting the deadlines that you set to complete the tasks in order to reach you goals).

Sticking to this habit will show you how much you have actually achieved and progressed, which will make you happier and will motivate you to continue implementing the plan, as you can see the business and your life improving!


Whilst everyone knows what they are good at, it is sometimes hard to answer the question “What are you main weaknesses?”

It may not be easy to be critical of yourself, but this question is one of the most important questions that you could ask yourself in life and in business, because if you don’t know what your weaknesses are, then how are you going to take action to improve these weaknesses?

You should use the experience of identifying your weaknesses as a positive event that will allow you to put a plan in place to identify how you can improve in these areas to the point where you know longer consider them to be a weakness and will be happier because of this!


These ideas and theories really can make a big difference to your business and your life if you implement them on a regular basis.

Ask yourself the following questions, and take actions based upon the answers that you give:

  • Do I absolutely have to do this or could I delegate it to someone else?
  • What are the things that I have to do to make a real difference to my life, or to the performance of my business?
  • Do I have a plan that is written down containing clear goals and objectives, and deadlines that need to be met, so that I can successfully implement the plan to improve the business?
  • Do I have a plan that is written down containing clear goals and objectives, and deadlines that need to be met, so that I can improve my life?
  • What do I struggle to do that is really holding me and my business back, and stopping me and the business from progressing?

  • Thank you for the wonderful post. a lot of business men will find this post useful or maybe anyone that just loves being successful. It’s good to write plans for the day immediately you wake and then start from the hardest tasks to the easiest.
